What should I expect when I visit the church?

You will receive a very warm welcome. Our Welcome Team will there to answer your questions and direct you to where you need to go. The service will be led by a member of the staff team or congregation and they will explain how that service will proceed. The services will always include singing some songs, listening to a passage of the Bible, and a sermon. There are Bibles in each of the seats for you to follow along if you wish.

Refreshments are served after the services where there is an opportunity to meet new people and ask more questions.

There is also a disabled access toilet with baby changing facility, and an induction loop for those with hearing aids.

What happens with the children at church?

The first thing to say is that children are very welcome, with all that they bring into the mix. The 11am service has a number of groups and activities to help children enjoy their time and grow in faith.

Children join together with the wider church at the start of the service. Part way into the service children (aged 2-11) head out to groups which are particularly tailored for them. In these groups they explore the Bible and get to know the Lord, with crafts and games and songs thrown into the mix.

When it’s time for children to head out to their groups (which are held in the Church Hall) parents are asked to accompany them to drop them off and then pick them up again after the service.  If it’s your first time with us you will be asked to fill out a registration form.

When Holy Communion is celebrated at the 11am service (4th and 5th Sundays of the month) the leaders of the groups will bring the kids back into the service in time to join in with the wider church family

All Age services happen once a month (typically 2nd Sunday of the month). During these service we all stay together. These service have a different flavour to them and are aimed at being accessible and enjoyable across the ages

For our youngest members (0-2) there is an area laid out with mats and toys for them to explore. Noise is absolutely OK as they remain in the service!

For more information about what happens in the children's work please visit the age groups relevant for you under groups.

Is there a dress code?

No! Please just be yourself and come dressed in your 'normal' clothes.

Will I have to join in?

Not at all! You are free to simply observe or participate as much as feels comfortable for you.

Can I come back to church after a long break?

People stop coming to church for many reasons, and whatever your reasons were, you will be very welcome at St Mary's should you wish to come along - we will be delighted to see you!
